Reminder: Saturday morning service 6/13 (important note inside)

This is just a reminder that there will be no Friday service June 12th. There will be a Saturday morning service June 13 at 10AM at McGill Baptist Church. Please bring a brunch-type item to share after the service. (The food part was the important note.)

Wanted: Religious School Committee members

Have an opinion about religious school curriculum? Or schedule? Or how to meet the needs of both older and younger students? Or how to teach kids about holidays? Or….anything else?

Consider joining the religious school committee. You can have a voice in how our religious school evolves, and play an important role in shaping our children’s Jewish education.

We will be meeting several times during the summer at times that are convenient to the members. Please email religious-school@or-olam.org.

Want to kvell in the Schmoozeletter?

We’d like to include more news about our congregants in the Schmoozeletter. Do you or your kids have something to celebrate? An achievement, graduation, award, accomplishment…anything at all that you’re proud of and would like to share. I know of a certain person who’s on an academic team that is right now competing in the national arena in Iowa, and another person who is graduating from high school with many kvell-worthy accomplishments this month. (hint, hint.) A picture would be great too, but is not required.

Also, if you have something of concern that you’d like to ask for the congregation’s prayers or well wishes about, we’d like to include that too.

Just email the information to editor@or-olam.org by June 7th, and I’ll get it in there.

Saturday morning service 6/13 replaces Friday night service

We will not be holding our 2nd Friday service in June. Instead of the 6/12 service, previously on the schedule, we will be having a Saturday morning service, including Torah service, on Saturday, 6/13, at 10AM at McGill Baptist Church. This will be a learning service.

Fourth Friday Shabbat Service 5/22

Please join us for a Shabbat Service on May 22nd at 7PM. Much of it will be led by the teenagers of Temple Or Olam.

Reminder: If you will be attending, please RSVP by May 25th.

Members of Temple Or Olam are invited to celebrate Shavuot at the Mace house. There will be swimming for those who want to. Others can schmooze (or snooze) in the sun or retreat to the basement. If you’d like to attend, please email events@or-olam.org for further information. Please bring a dairy dish to share.

Date: Sunday, May 31st
Time: 2PM – 5PM
Place: email events@or-olam.org for the Mace address (or look in the directory.)

Prayerbook Hebrew class begins May 20th

Did you ever hope to actually understand the prayers you are reading? This summer, I am offering a class that offers an opportunity for our congregants to learn the rudiments of prayerbook Hebrew.

You don’t need to read Hebrew fluently to take this class, but you do need to be able to read. We will use the text Prayerbook Hebrew Made Easy. The course will be held on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. beginning May 20 and will run ten to twelve weeks. We’ll meet at my house, in Concord.

If four take the class, the charge will be $15 per hour per person. The fee will be $12.50 per person if there are six or more students. I will ask participants to pay for all classes, even if they are absent (though I will, of course, be willing to try and make up the material by phone if that should happen). The textbook can be found at the URL above.

If you want to participate in this class and can’t get the book by tour first session, no worries – copies will be available. Please let me know if you are interested, and feel free to ask for more information.

B’shalom,
Reb Barbara
