Machzorim for High Holy Days

Several years ago, when the congregation bought copies of Machzor Hadash for our High Holy Days services, some families also bought personal copies. The Ritual Committee is trying to ensure that we have enough machzorim this year. If you will be bringing your own machzor(im) to services next month, could you please let us know at gjensen100@hotmail.com? Thanks, everyone.

High Holy Day song-teach & Shalom Lake Norman

September 13th will be a big day for Temple Or Olam.

10:00AM: Religious school families are meeting at Steve and Robbin Smith’s house for their opening day.

10:45AM: The rest of the congregation is joining them at the Smith house, as Reb Barbara teaches us some songs and melodies for the High Holy Day services. Please bring chairs for your family.

11:30AM: We depart for Shalom Lake Norman, which takes place at Ramsey Creek Park from Noon to 4PM. There will be all kinds of Jewish cultural activities, and is a good chance for us to be with the larger Jewish Community.

Change in July Shabbat service schedule

Please note that there is a change to the Shabbat service schedule in July. There will be one service, and that will be July 17th, the THIRD Friday of the month. At that service, some of our teenagers will be leyning Torah, so please come to enjoy and support them.

Reminder: Annual Congregational Meeting Sunday 6/28 3pm

Hi, this is a reminder that we’re holding our congregational meeting at McGill Baptist Church this coming Sunday, 6/28, at 3PM. Babysitting will be available. We are voting on this slate of board officers:

President – Robbin Smith
Membership – Jill Partridge
Treasuer – Richard Jacobson
Social/Adult Programming – Lisa Boguslaw

Please make every effort to attend. Besides the election, we will be discussing matters like our budget, our covenant with Reb Barbara, a membership drive, and other issues.

Reminder: Saturday morning service 6/13 (important note inside)

This is just a reminder that there will be no Friday service June 12th. There will be a Saturday morning service June 13 at 10AM at McGill Baptist Church. Please bring a brunch-type item to share after the service. (The food part was the important note.)

Want to kvell in the Schmoozeletter?

We’d like to include more news about our congregants in the Schmoozeletter. Do you or your kids have something to celebrate? An achievement, graduation, award, accomplishment…anything at all that you’re proud of and would like to share. I know of a certain person who’s on an academic team that is right now competing in the national arena in Iowa, and another person who is graduating from high school with many kvell-worthy accomplishments this month. (hint, hint.) A picture would be great too, but is not required.

Also, if you have something of concern that you’d like to ask for the congregation’s prayers or well wishes about, we’d like to include that too.

Just email the information to editor@or-olam.org by June 7th, and I’ll get it in there.

Saturday morning service 6/13 replaces Friday night service

We will not be holding our 2nd Friday service in June. Instead of the 6/12 service, previously on the schedule, we will be having a Saturday morning service, including Torah service, on Saturday, 6/13, at 10AM at McGill Baptist Church. This will be a learning service.

Reminder: Shavuot Swim and Sun Party

Reminder: If you will be attending, please RSVP by May 25th.

Members of Temple Or Olam are invited to celebrate Shavuot at the Mace house. There will be swimming for those who want to. Others can schmooze (or snooze) in the sun or retreat to the basement. If you’d like to attend, please email events@or-olam.org for further information. Please bring a dairy dish to share.

Date: Sunday, May 31st
Time: 2PM – 5PM
Place: email events@or-olam.org for the Mace address (or look in the directory.)
