Purim Scouts on the Loose

In true Temple Or Olam tradition, we are asking our congregants to provide part of our Purim entertainment. Do you play an instrument? Can you sing a song? How about a magic trick? We will take contributions of three to five minutes. Let us know by March 17 if you plan to perform by emailing to info@or-olam.org

Community School of Davidson invites you to their Holocaust museum

This message is from The Community School of Davidson.

The Community School of Davidson’s 6th grade class will be creating a Holocaust museum as a culminating project to our Holocaust unit study. Our middle school, transformed into a memorable museum, will be open to the public May 26th from 4pm to 8pm . Historically, the 6th grade Holocaust unit has proved to be life-changing for these students. The knowledge and compassion each student embraces during this walk through time will be poignantly displayed throughout the museum. We warmly welcome you to visit the incredibly beautiful exhibits and to revisit this tragic time in our history.

Address: 565 Griffith Street, Davidson, NC 28036
School phone: (704) 896-6262

Next board meeting

Temple Or Olam’s board meetings are open to congregants. The next meeting is on Sunday, April 25th, at 7pm, at McGill Baptist Church.

A couple of guidelines to make this easier…

1. Please notify President or Vice President of the board of the subject matter at least one week in advance, so that they can make sure it is added to the agenda. Note: You can attend without having a specific subject matter, but please still notify the President or Vide President that you will attend.
2. Members who attend may speak on other agenda items as well, with a limit of 3 minutes per agenda item.
3. There may be matters discussed at a board meeting that must be kept confidential in order to protect individual’s privacy. In that case, congregants would be asked to leave during that part of the discussion.

Reminder: Bring Canned Goods to Purim Party!

In addition to your baked goods to share, please also remember to  bring canned goods (at least one per person attending) to our Purim celebration tomorrow — we are collecting for Second Harvest Food Bank!

Arranged
A beautiful story that illustrates that friendship has no religion. This heartwarming film portrays the friendship between an Orthodox Jewish woman and a Muslim woman who meet as first-year teachers at a public school in Brooklyn. As their friendship grows, they learn that they share much in common – not least of which is they are both going through the process of arranged marriages. Sweetly funny moments combined with distinct narrative make this an insightful viewing experience. Winner, Audience Awards at the Washington and Palm Beach Jewish Film Festivals, 2007. To be followed by an interfaith panel discussion.

A Matter of Size
A run-away hit in Israel and at Jewish film festivals across the United States, this heartwarming film will keep audiences smiling and wanting more! Part sports drama, part love story, this is the sweet and absurdly funny tale of four overweight guys- with low self-esteem – who decide to abandon their weight-loss group and start a Sumo wrestling club in Israel. While training, they discover the soul of sumo, realizing that love and success will only come from being true to themselves. A smart, funny and honest comedy reminiscent of other feel-good crowd-pleasers such as The Full Monty.Winner of Jury Prize for Best Comedy, Traverse City Film Festival and nominated for 13 Israeli Academy Awards (winner of Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress).
