Culture Returns to Cabarrus County:

The Havurat Olam Film Festival

Those who made our opening film may remember that we promised the Tribe The Frisco Kid,. Due to technical difficulties, we had to postpone that particular showing. But we can now finally fulfill our promise. On May 15th, we will bring you this hilarious, comedy starring the bug-eyed, blue-eyed, blond-haired Gene Wilder. Though he hasn't got Wilder's looks (who has?), Harrison Ford plays a leading role. Please bring something to nosh on, and join us, please, at the United Central Methodist Church in Concord on May 15th for a silly and friendly evening with the ganze mishpocheh. We will ask for a $5 per couple donation to cover costs. (That's $2.50 per adult being.).  Please RSVP.

Join the Kids: Friday Night Services in May

Hey, the kids are going to be there, so you may as well show up! This month, we're introducing a special portion of Kabbalat Shabbat (greeting the Sabbath), featuring various Olamites. Please join us on May 21 for Friday night services, and listen to the younger set manage the Hebrew, beginning with, of course, Shabbat Shalom.

Services are followed by an Oneg Shabbat. Please bring a little something to nosh and the time it takes to shmooze a little. We will meet at the centrally located and fully accessible St. James Lutheran Church in Concord, which is situated on the corner of Corban and Union. Enter the parking lot from Corban, and come in through the back entrance. Walk down the short hall and turn right. We will meet in the small assembly room on the right.

Please arrive by 6:45 p.m. Services begin at 7:00 p.m. and last about one hour.

Until such time as we have a budget and have collected dues, we are charging $3 per person (children included) to cover basic costs of the facilities. We have a few extra prayer books on hand for guests, but those who plan to attend regularly should purchase one or more. Please contact our Religious Services Coordinator, Brian Cutler, if you are in need of a copy of our beautiful siddur, Likrat Shabbat

Please RSVP and let us know if you plan to attend.

Celebrating Sinai with Shavuot:

Havurat Olam Celebrates an Anniversary

Lots of you were there when we celebrated our first holiday together just about one year ago. Shevuot falls during the last week of May. Time to celebrate the receiving of the Torah. We hope to see you at Frank Liske Park on May 30 for the mother of all picnics. We're including games for the kids, music for the kids, a reprise of last year's wildly popular Two Tablets for an Infected Sinai performed by the kids, a raffle for the kids (oh, okay, adults are allowed).

We'll also take the time for a very brief Yizkor (memorial) service: please let us know if you have family members we should include on our remembrance list.

If I had a hammer... Door to Door

Havurat Olam is ready to schedule a door-to-door mezuzah hanging party this spring. Let us know if you have a mezuzah waiting for a doorpost. A small band of cheerful folk will appear at your home to help begin your mezuzah's start in life with blessings and song. There are five homes already on our list; would you like to add yours? Just respond to this very email and let us know. We'll be in touch.

Please RSVP.

All right, then, how about a little manna from heaven. Send us an RSVP. Or two. Or three!
