There is no escaping karma. In a previous life,

you never called, you never wrote, you never visited.

And whose fault was that?

[Friday Night Services] [Hanukah!]

Friday Night Services

With Preliminary Children's Service

December 16, 2005

What better way to use up your leftovers than at our oneg?  Please join us in our own form of Thanksgiving, at our November Shabbat service .

“And a man wrestled with him until the break of dawn.”  After that long struggle, our text says that the “Other” (man, angel, God?) renamed Jacob “Israel.”  So, says Torah, we became a nation of God-wrestlers.

Join us for Friday night services this month, when we will explore this enigmatic text, sing some new Shabbat melodies, and enjoy the warmth we have been generating so beautifully this fall.

Our Children’s Service begins at 6:30.  Adult services will get into full swing by 7 p.m.

Please bring something to nosh at the oneg following services.  We will meet at McGill Baptist Church in Concord (directions below).

Hanukah! Hanukah!

Plays, Skits, and the Great Debate:

Latkes vs. Hamentaschen vs. Mandelbrot

Havurat Olam votes on this critical question

We mean it.  This is a party you mustn’t miss.  Just check out the lively entertainment!

Kindergarten Kehilla Kids are joining the next grade up in a wild and woolly performance of “The Unexpected Guest.” The performance will feature a guest appearance by Muri, our Religious School student teacher, as “Bear”.

Our third grade will treat us to Awful Jewish Jokes and the well-loved game show “How to be a Kosher Millionaire”.

And our havurah teenagers are planning to present the original drama, “Nobody expects the Syrian Inquisition!”

Havurat Olam Adult Prayerbook Hebrew Class Members will compete and win fabulous prizes for our three Religious School grades by debating the relative merits of latkes, mandelbrot, and latkes.

We’re planning to light all the menorahs you can bring and say our Hanukah brachas.  We’ll eat and sing and dance ourselves silly.  Party-down and prayers up, everyone.  We hope to see you there!

Please bring something to nosh.  Latkes are welcome (but so is mandelbrot…)
