Or Olam in the Loop — Our Weekly Bulletin On All Things TOO

Loop

Torah Service and Kabbalat Shabbat March 11

For over the Tabernacle a cloud of YHVH rested by day, and fire would appear in it by night.

We have just reached the very end of the book of Exodus, giving us all a wonderful opportunity to chant the words that go with such an accomplishment: Hazak, hazak, v’nitchazeyk!

The end of our scroll speaks to the presence of YHVH in the holy space the Israelites have created.  During this service we will explore the imagery of this text and explore its meaning for our own practice.

Please remember to bring something to share at our oneg!

Jewish With FeelingJewish With Feeling — A Temple Or Olam Adult Education Program – Starts this Sunday!

Still time to join in!

Rabbi Zalman opens up your heart and soul space in his well-known introduction to the Jewish Renewal movement in Jewish With Feeling. Here you will find an accessible, delightful explanation of “open-sky” Judaism; here you will learn how Jewish Renewal seeks to find ways to pray, ways to live, and ways to learn how delightful it is to be Jewish with feeling.

Read with us, meet with us, and explore. Rabbi Barbara will provide a set of guiding questions for each chapter. Our first session will explore the first two chapters of Jewish With Feeling and will be held via conference call on Sunday, March 6 from 10:00-11:30 AM. Other sessions may be held in people’s homes or in restaurants. There is no charge except for the purchase of the book which is not at all expensive and can be purchased online (see urls below…)

Housing the Wild… Our  Tikkun Olam Project Continues on March 12 birdhouses

On February 21 we completed a total of 12 birdhouses, and there are 14 more in the works!  Now for the next step….

On March 12 we will take the birdhouses to a local island for placement.  The island is located on Lake Norman (just south of the Hwy 150 bridge).  It is only accessible by boat, and is completely uninhabited by humans.  If you plan to come along for this part of the project keep in mind that it will involve riding on a boat as well as hiking through mud and thick foliage.  Please dress accordingly and also keep in mind that there will be about a 10-15 degree wind chill on the water.  There are no facilities on the island, other than trees of course, but there will be at least some at the boat launch area.

The plan for the day is to meet at the McCrary Creek Access Area which is next to Queen’s Landing on Hwy 150 at 10am.  We will be returning homeward at about 4pm.  For meeting onsite, Queen’s Landing address is below, since Will King, who is organizing this project, could not find a listed address for McCrary Creek Access Area.

Will can also have a group meet and leave from Concord at 9am.  If you are interested, contact Will at the email address below.

Will be bringing drinks and snacks, but please pack a lunch for the day, though I will have plenty of drinks and snacks available.  If you are only able to make it for part of the day please let Will know in advance so I can go ahead and plan to have shuttles at certain times during the day.

Email Will at: vicepresident@or-olam.org

If you want to meet us there, here is the location: Queen’s Landing, 1459 River Hwy, Mooresville, NC 28117
